The FT highlights the stark reality of our recycling providers

It's astonishing what happened when the FT fitted trackers in old, broken laptops and gave them to UK retailers for recycling.

It's a harsh reality that the tech industry creates an unbelievable amount of electronic waste. We've been pretending for too long that it's not an issue and this needs to change.

9 out of 10 enterprises I meet with say they are recycling their IT. The truth is that most aren't, but even if you are, you need to be exceptionally careful about the providers you select as they are not all equal!

With sustainability auditing rising in importance it's time to get a better control over what happens with your assets when they reach their end-of-life with you.

The FT expose below showcases an almost comedically bad picture of the sector. It's worth reading purely to understand some fundamental questions you need to be asking your asset recovery providers!! The excuses shared by these providers are mildly ridiculous and show some pretty weak processes and governance.

I've got another article I'll share later this week which is almost as damming about the way big tech is being dumped in Africa (or being burnt in Germany), that's a whole other story!
